IF YOU HAVE A SITUATIONIST SPIRIT...

...then we suggest you drift along the right-hand side.

deriveFANZINE (RE)DISCOVERING…

Modern life often leads us on the same path every day without us realising what is happening in our surroundings, without us being aware of everyday reality, as we act in a certain way like zombie/prisoners of the daily routine.

And so the deriveFANZINE has been created, an initiative to make us newly aware of all that is around us. A long stroll without any specific goal, drifting between Getxo and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, during which the main thing was to meet each other along the way and show up with the desire to be inquisitive and proactive.

During this period of drifting, we experienced a lot of different sensations, but those who participated agreed on two of them: surprise and contrast. We passed through incredibly diverse landscapes: very different urban situations, both privileged areas and rundown areas, very diverse cultural realities all mixed together... And all in a relatively small territory and with the constant sensation of rediscovering something, re-encountering or re-knowing places.

The main conclusion that we reached is that however much we think we know the surroundings in which we live, there are always details that we see for the first time. The key is to allow ourselves to experience them in a new way: to stop and speak to strangers, investigate the nooks and crannies we have never looked at before, wander about aimlessly...

We at deriveFANZINE encourage you to do all these things!

With all that we experienced during the drifting (situations, places, people...), we have created a group fanzine that you can look at here.

The fanzine can be picked up at different places in Getxo, but perhaps you haven't been able to find one. Don't worry, because here are all the files so you can print your own copy:

- Cover
- Pages (block 1 Din-A3)
- Pages (block 2 Din-A4)

We also have a guide containing more specific information about what drifting is all about and what a fanzine is. You can take a look here or download the files, print them and create your own. Here they are:

- Cover
- Pages (Din A3)

NOTE:
The pages are Din A3 sheet size, which means you might need to take them to a photocopy shop to print them. The covers will fit onto a Din A4 sheet, so you can print them on your printer at home (and naturally the results will be a lot more professional if you print them in colour).

These publications have to be put together in a specific way and this video will help you to do that:

Here are some images from the workshop:

If you like what you see and what to see more, here you can view all the images from deriveFANZINE:

deriveFANZINE is a workshop for observing and analysing your surroundings, for independent expression and creation, for publishing production and editing. To do all these things, it uses methods that combine research, archaeology and current artistic practice.

dF is an initiative created by the Youth Service of the Getxo City Council together with the Education Department (DEAC) of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and coordinated by AMASTÉ.

dF took place on 15, 17, 24 and 31 October 2009.
